George S. Wright currently holds the position of senior vice president, Emerging Markets Division, GMAC Mortgage Corporation where he directs all national business development and sales designed to meet the home buying, financial and lending needs of the country's minority market segments. His more than 18 years experience in the retail banking and mortgage lending areas prepared Wright to manage and strategically position the Division's Community Financial Centers (CFC) located in Chicago, IL; Detroit, MI; Oakland, CA, and Washington, D. C. Wright's position also includes serving as liaison to GMAC Home Services and providing his Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) and Fair Lending expertise to the fledgling GMAC Bank. Before joining GMAC Mortgage, Wright held a number of increasingly responsible positions with Citibank including service as community investment officer for the Central United States region and national sales trainer. During his 15-year tenure, he received the prestigious national and local President's Club Awards for outstanding performance and leadership in sales. The YMCA honored Wright with its national Black and Hispanic Achiever in Industry Award for his achievements in the banking industry. Additionally, the National Association of Real Estate Brokers (NAREB) presented Wright with an award for his exceptional contributions to the industry. The Southside branch of the Chicago YMCA honed Wright's skills as a problem-solving executive. During his nearly five years with the organization, he held several positions which led to him being asked to direct branch operations prior to a planned site closure. Due to Wright's tenacity, resourcefulness and understanding of the importance of the branch to the community, he forestalled the shutdown for an additional two and a half years. Throughout his career, Wright has been involved in numerous banking and financial industry boards and committees including service as co-chair of the Federal Reserve Bank's Mortgage Credit Access Partnership Committee, established to recommend steps to remove barriers to home ownership, and as co-chair of the Fannie Mae Homebuyer Counseling Partnership. Most recently, he was appointed to serve on the 15-member Philadelphia Predatory Lending Task Force, recently formed by the Philadelphia City Council. Wright earned a bachelor's degree in business and psychology from St. Joseph's College in Indiana and furthered his studies at the Illinois Institute of Technology. A native of Chicago, IL, Wright currently resides in southeastern Pennsylvania. |
