The Honorable Marian B. Tasco is recognized as one of Philadelphia's most Influential, Politically savvy, and pro-active legislator Elected to serve her fourth term its City Council Representative for the Ninth District in N07vember 1999, Councilwoman Tasco represents over 155,000 residents In the Northwest and Northeast sections of Philadelphia. Her colleagues also unanimously elected her Majority Whip of the City Council of Philadelphia in January 2000.

Councilwoman Tasco also serves as the Word Leader for the renowned "Mighty-Mighty 50th Ward Democratic Executive Committee." Under her leadership, the highly motivated and politically astute 50* Ward and Its committeepeople, have maintained their distinguished position in local politics by having the highest voter turnout amongst all neighborhoods and other wards in the City of Philadelphia.

As a veteran legislator understanding the importance of elected officials being held accountable for their productivity, Councilwoman Tasco continues to be effective in her commitment to obtain goods and services to preserve and enhance the quality of life for her constituency. She has been able to maintain an outstanding rapport with her electorate by introducing and securing the passage of a myriad of bills and resolutions which directly relate to improving general city services, protecting and enhancing the health and welfare of women, children, and families alike; and making Philadelphia neighborhoods and commercial corridors safe havens for all citizens.

While using her political leverage to accomplish the aforementioned, Councilwoman Tasco currently serves as Chair of the City Council Committee on Health & Human Services; Vice Chair of the Finance Committee; and holds membership on the Fiscal Stability & Intergovernmental Cooperation; Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Affairs; and the Transportation and Public Utilities Committee. She has also successfully secured an eminent leadership position, in which she serves as Chair, of the Philadelphia Gas Commission (PGC), the agency that provides co-management for the Philadelphia Gas Works (PGW), a city owned utility.

While overcoming many barriers and developing a blueprint for her future in 1983, Councilwoman Tasco became the first African American elected City Commissioner in Philadelphia, overseeing voter registration and elections She was equipped with the "know how" to serve In this position after many years of local grassroots community organizing. Prior to being elected to public offer Councilwoman Tasco was the Campaign Manager for former Congressman William H. Gray III. and also served as Director of Constituent Services for his Philadelphia office. She also served as an assistant to the Secretary of the State for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Early in her career, Councilwoman Tasco worked as Task Force Coordinator for the Greater Philadelphia Urban Affairs Coalition.

Nationally known as a visionary leader who stands firm in her beliefs and convictions, Councilwoman Tasco has been on the front line in the battle to get more women elected to public office and involved in the political process which governs our society. She is a Past National President of Women In Municipal Government (WIMG), a constituency group of the National league of Cities; former Vice Chair (SE Region) of the Pennsylvania Women's Campaign Fund (PWCF); Executive Member, Five County Democratic Women's Coalition (Greater Philadelphia Region); Advisory Board member, Women's Way; Executive Member, Elizabeth Blackwell Center; Member, National Political Congress of Black Women; Member, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and is a Member, National Coalition of 100 Black Women. Councilwoman Tasco is also a consultant trainer for the YWCA Institute for Public Leadership, sponsored by the National Board of the YWCA, which seeks to prepare women for candidacy, campaign management, and issue advocacy.

Councilwoman Tasco has also been a campaign adviser for many local area statewide candidates. Her commitment to education and training is further established by her role as Vice Chair, Board of Trustees, Bennett College, Greensboro, NC. Councilwoman Tasco his also received awards and honors from numerous community, civic, and religious organizations. Most recently, she was selected as a "Distinguished Daughter of Pennsylvania" by Governor Tom Ridge for her work as Councilwoman an advocate for the citizens of Philadelphia. She is the recipient of the Pennsylvania Federation of Democratic Women's 1998 "Elected Woman of the Year" Award. Councilwoman Tasco was also honored and received the "1999 Woman of Achievement Award" by the March of Dimes, Southeast Pennsylvania Chapter.

Councilwoman Tasco attended Bennett College in Greensboro, NC. She received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Education from Temple University.

Councilwoman Tasco is the widow of Thomas Earl Williams. She has one son, Charles Tasco, III, and three grandchildren Ashley, Charlie, and Armand.
